Sacraments are an outward sign, instituted by Christ, to give grace.

 

Sacraments of Initiation

Baptism

Normally received shortly after birth, baptism can be received at anytime in one’s life. The infant is baptized on the faith of the parents. But once you are of the age of reason, around 7 years old and older you would be baptized through the process of RCIA.
Signs of this sacrament are water, holy oil of catechumen and chrism, a white garment, and a candle.

Confirmation

Seals the gifts of the Holy Spirit begun in Baptism.
Signs of this sacrament are the laying-on of hands and anointing with chrism accompanied by prayer. The chrism is blessed by the bishop and the bishop usually administers the sacrament.

Eucharist

The central part of our faith – the true presence – the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Signs of this sacrament are bread and wine.

Sacraments of Healing

Reconciliation

Some times called confession, sacrament of peace/penance.
An opportunity to show remorse, receive forgiveness and a true change of heart and desire to avoid sin.
Signs of this sacrament are the priest, who represents Christ.

Confession times are Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 9 a.m. or by appointment.

Anointing of the Sick

Once thought only to be received near death, this sacrament is for any baptized person with a serious physical or mental illness, going for surgery or near death. Signs of this sacrament are the holy oil of the sick and prayer administered by a priest.

Sacraments of Commitment

Marriage

Vows taken by a man and a woman, in a Catholic church, in the presence of a priest or deacon, stating their intent to commit their lives in sickness and in health, for better or worse, till death do they part. Signs of the sacrament are the bride and groom.

Holy Orders – Priesthood/Diaconate

It is a sacrament instituted by Christ who ordained the Apostles at the Last Supper. It is administered by the laying on of hands and prayers by a bishop. This sacrament is reserved to men.  
To the priesthood belong the celebration of Holy Mass and the power of forgiving sins and anointing of the sick.
The Diaconate is also reserved to men.  Ordained as well by the Bishop they can assist at mass, baptize and officiate at marriages.
Signs of this sacrament – laying of hands, stole, chasuble.
